Protector

The little one came into your world,
A delight to see.
His innocence intact,
He smiled with glee.

You kept him away,
Swearing to protect him.
You hid the hard truth,
And lulled him to sleep.

As time passed by,
He started to see.
There was nothing you could do,
Trying as you might be.

The smile was lost,
There innocence gone.
The little boy grew up,
The damage was done.

Failed as a protector,
You let him get hurt.
All your efforts,
Went to dirt.

He chose to go away,
From this damaged past.
You wished him well,
And bid your last.

As always you hope,
He sees the happy days.
And comes back one day,
To tell you of his new ways.
